The Quran's revelation
upon the Prophet (Pbuh) was an awe-inspiring and magnificent miracle that
remains just as wondrous and glorious today as it did back then, rendering it a
timeless wonder. Besides Quran miraculous revelation, there were other miracles that occurred while
in the Prophet's presence, and they had a profound impact on those who
witnessed them. Two categories of miracles that were witnessed regularly were
those involving trees and stones that would greet him, demonstrating nature's
attachment to him. The Prophet (Pbuh) taught that the student of knowledge has
everyone and everything making dua'a for them, including animals, fish in the
sea, and the environment, as they benefit everything around them. Since the
Prophet (Pbuh) received knowledge directly from the heavens, he was the most
blessed among those who were given knowledge.
. Before receiving revelation, the
Prophet (Pbuh) experienced miracles, such as trees extending their branches and
stones greeting him with Salaam. However, he did not understand their
significance at the time. At the age of 40, the Prophet (Pbuh) recognized the
stone in Mecca that used to greet him as a Prophet (Pbuh), and he continued to
recognize it after his Prophethood. One day, Anas ibn Malik (RA) witnessed a
handful of small stones doing tasbih in the hand of the Prophet (Pbuh),
praising and glorifying Allah. Nature often showered blessings upon the Prophet
(Pbuh) because it felt blessed by his presence and numerous companions
witnessed these miracles.
In another miraculous event, a woman from
the Ansar suggested building a Minbar for the Prophet (Pbuh) to give the Jummah
khutbah from instead of leaning on a tree. When he moved to the Minbar, the
date palm tree on which the Prophet would lean started crying, described by
some as similar to a pregnant she-camel about to give birth or a moaning baby.
The Prophet comforted the tree and explained that it missed hearing the
remembrance of Allah because he no longer leaned on it. This was an example of
one category of miracles.
The second category of the Prophet's
miracles consisted of the blessings produced by his hands. With just a touch,
he could cause something to start producing or multiply a small quantity into a
large one. Various narrations detail his miraculous abilities with food and water.
For example, he placed his hands on a non-milking animal's udders, causing it
to produce milk, as happened in the story of Umm Ma'bad. Another narration
describes how, with just a single sheep, the Prophet fed 130 people and had
leftovers to spare, despite limited resources. Additionally, he served yogurt
to the poor in the masjid, and the supply never ran out due to his barakah. The
Prophet also provided food for over 1000 people from a single pot in the
Khandaq, and his companions could perform Wudu with just a small amount of
water poured through his hands. These are a few examples of the miraculous
events that occurred in relation to food and water during the Prophet's
lifetime.
The narrations show that not only were all
the people able to drink from the small pot of water that the Prophet (Pbuh) poured
through his hands, but they were even able to take enough water for their
animals. It is remarkable how the Prophet (Pbuh) was able to produce an
abundance of blessings and barakah. The scholars point out that even the
miracles of the Prophet (Pbuh) were full of mercy and rahmah because he always
gave more than what was expected, whether it was related to worldly matters or
matters of the hereafter.
